The Trilateral Initiative: How Britain, Poland and Ukraine Can Shape a Post-War Europe

29.04.2024

On February 17, 2022 the United Kingdom, Poland and Ukraine established a new format of trilateral cooperation. Its overarching goal was to strengthen Ukraine's security in various areas. With the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine a few days later, the issue of developing the Trilateral was pushed into the background and Poland and the UK stepped up their military and political support for Ukraine in its fight against the Russian aggressor. More than two years after the invasion, however, the Trilateral appears as a potentially very attractive instrument. It can contribute both to reformulating military support  for Ukraine to enable its victory against Russia, and to accelerating the recovery of Ukraine's economy and the pace of its Euro-Atlantic integration.

The report is the result of cooperation between the Polish Institute of International Affairs, the Council on Geostrategy (UK) and the Foreign Policy Council Ukrainian PRISM (Ukraine).
