The volume Polish Documents on Foreign Policy. 11 November 1918 – 28 June 1919 illustrates the first months of the newborn Second Polish Re The publication presents the activity of Polish politicians and diplomats since the end of the First World War until the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.
Poland’s diplomatic service in statu nascendi faced a very complicated international situation at the turn of 1918-1919. An anti-German rising broke out in Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) and the Polish-Ukrainian war over Eastern Galicia was ongoing. Furthermore, the fights between Polish and Czech troops over Cieszyn Silesia (Śląsk Cieszyński) began at the end of January 1919, so did the Polish-Soviet war in the following month.
Apart from military issues, Polish diplomacy was focused on the preparations for the Peace Conference in Paris, and then attempted to defend its stance during the sessions. Last but not least, a great deal of energy was expended in attempt to organize humanitarian aid from the West, and transfer the so-called Blue Army led by gen. Haller from France to Poland.
The volume consists of 200 documents published, to a great extent, before within the Polish-language series Polish Documents on Foreign Policy (volumes: 1918 November-December, 1919 January-May). It has an extended name index and editorial notes in the preface.
