PISM Berlin Fireside Chats is a format of the PISM Berlin Office dedicated to conversations with renowned experts, politicians, and journalists in the field of international affairs. The aim of the initiative is to create a space for in-depth, yet deliberately informal discussions on key challenges of international politics.

Our guest will be Roderich Kiesewetter, MdB, one of the most prominent experts on foreign and security policy in the German Bundestag, a retired Colonel of the Bundeswehr, and author of the book “Was wollen wir? Was können wir? Deutschlands Rolle in der globalen Machtverschiebung”.

The focus of the discussion will be the security challenges facing Europe in a time of growing geopolitical tensions and strategic uncertainty. How defensible is Europe today – and are Poland and Germany prepared for the security challenges of the future? The conversation will address the Zeitenwende in Europe, the lessons learned from Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as the question of why resilience, deterrence, and societal preparedness for defence have become central themes of European politics. It will also explore the role Poland and Germany can play in a new European security order, as well as the differing perspectives and expectations that continue to exist.

Welcome:

Guest:

  • Roderich Kiesewetter, Member of the German Parliament
