The German-Polish Climate and Energy Dialogue, organized by the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) and Germanwatch, is an official part of the supporting program of the 4th German-Polish Energy Transition Forum. The event is prepared in cooperation with the main organizers: the German-Polish Energy Platform and in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Berlin and the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH). The German-Polish Energy Platform is coordinated by the Polish Energy Conservation Agency (KAPE) and the German Energy Agency (dena) on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office.
Europe’s energy landscape is shaped by a new era of geopolitical uncertainty. Russia’s war against Ukraine, instability in global energy markets, and tensions in key supply regions continue to drive volatile and elevated energy prices. Clean, secure, and affordable energy systems — built on public trust — are essential to enhancing Europe’s long-term resilience.
Germany and Poland face many of the same challenges, but often approach them from different political, economic, and societal angles. During the discussion, participants will compare German and Polish perspectives, identify shared challenges, and discuss how both countries can strengthen resilience through cooperation, better communication, and more effective policy design. The aim is to develop a clearer shared understanding of what strengthens or erodes public trust in the energy transition, assess the strategic role of energy independence for societal and political resilience, and identify concrete opportunities for German–Polish cooperation.
The insights generated in this closed-door exchange will be synthesized into recommendations for both governments in advance of the upcoming intergovernmental consultations between Germany and Poland.
