The first year of U.S. President Donald Trump's second term has disrupted the stability of transatlantic relations. The aggressive announcements made by the U.S. authorities towards Greenland have called into question the durability of the alliance commitments undertaken within NATO and have raised doubts about the role that the U.S. wants to play in Europe and in the world. The attack on Iran and the economic consequences of the destabilization in the Persian Gulf led to greater doubt and, at times, dissatisfaction with the policies pursued by the United States. Finally, Poland has recently found itself in an unclear situation regarding the presence of U.S. troops in Poland and the overall U.S. military contribution to NATO. How do all these activities affect public feelings about the U.S. in Poland and certainty about its foreign policy? How does this fit into the broader trends of declining willingness for cooperation and perception of the United States in European countries? This seminar, convened jointly by the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) and the Atlantic Council Warsaw Office, will discuss how the tense context influences development of the Polish-American relations.
