Public Debate: Europe Whole and Free: Vision and Reality
On November 21, 2019 the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM), in cooperation with the Transatlantic Leadership Network (TLN), held an event to promote PISM’s newest publication entitled Europe Whole and Free: Vision and Reality.

Under the joint editorship of Dr. Sławomir Dębski and Dr. Daniel S. Hamilton, the book brought together over 30 of the best experts in transatlantic relations and current international studies.

The promotion of Europe Whole and Free: Vision and Reality was held at the Library of Congress, Madison Memorial Building in Washington D.C. in the company of contributors and guests invited by PISM and TLN.

The event began with introductory remarks by PISM director Dr. Sławomir Dębski and TLN director Dr. Daniel S. Hamilton mentioning some of the issues discussed in the book. Both editors referred to several reflections in the publication discussing the state of United States-European relations over the last thirty years.

The second portion of the event was a discussion moderated by Ambassador Paula Dobriansky of Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government – Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. Among the discussants were three contributors to Europe Whole and Free: Heather A. Conley of the Center for Strategic and International Studies; Ernest Wyciszkiewicz – director of The Center for Polish-Russian Dialogue and Understanding; and Dov S. Zakheim who represented CNA Corporation.

Concluding remarks summarizing the discussion along with a personal reflection of transatlantic relations was provided by Stephen J. Flanagan from the RAND Corporation research center.
